But using some tips you can still eat healthy food on a tight budget.

Plan your Meal

The first thing to do is to plan your meals for the whole day, this will help you save some money as you’ll have a basic idea of the structure of your diet and you can control it according to your requirements.
Try to put food on your list that is high in nutrients, at the top, and unnecessary things below so that you can have a better idea of what to buy and what you can leave for now.

Go for Meals Instead of Supplements

If you are a gym goer and you just started doing exercises, you don’t need to buy supplements in the beginning, instead, you can have proper meals and a proper diet plan which is full of macro and micronutrients. If you have spent enough time in the gym and you’re an intermediate, then you can consider using supplements.
Remember, you can build muscles without using any supplements, Supplements are only added to complete your daily nutrition requirements if you are not getting them in your diet.

Prepare Your Own Meals

Instead of eating outside or ordering food, try to make your meals. This will help you not only saving money but also you will explore many things yourself (you can find what suits you the most), you can have variations in meals every day that’ll help you to stay on track without getting bored. Try different things as you won’t have limitations and you will end up with healthy food which is also tasty!

You can replace meats or protein supplements with these cheap protein sources, these products are also a good source of protein.  

  1. Peanut Butter: This might be the cheapest source of protein, carbs, and fats, even you can make peanut butter at home and all you need is peanut, that’s all!
  2. Eggs: Eggs are the best source of protein and have a good amount of fats in the yolk part.
  3. Cottage Cheese: These are also a good source of protein as well as fats. These are a very tasty source of protein!
  4. Chicken breast: These are one of the best sources of lean protein, It is easy to cook and available at a very considerable price. It’s very tasty and can be cooked within a few minutes.
  5. Whey protein: Whey protein is the best source of lean protein and it is available at an affordable price as well. Obviously, it is suggested to go for those brands which are well known in most countries so that it will be easier to trust these products. I suggest you not to buy very cheap whey, but also you don’t have to spend too much to get the best in the market, it depends on you which brand suits you more.
  6. Oats: These are perfect for your breakfast, oats are full of protein and carbs that can make you full for several hours.
  7. Fish: If you’re looking for lean protein, then fish might be the best. They are full of protein and have a little number of good fats (like omega 3) which are good for heart-related problems. 

Buy in Bulk

Buying some foods in bulk might save you some money, especially during sales, you might get a good deal. So, try to buy some things in bulk and store them to save money.

Clean your Fridge

To stay on the track, to stay healthy, you must get rid of all the junk foods in your fridge, why? Because, seeing unhealthy food every day in the fridge might make you eat them, So avoid storing junk foods and clean your fridge, store healthy food, it will make a huge difference in your health.

Try Going to Local Market

Consider checking the local market before going to any supermarket, and you can evaluate the difference in prices in different places, you might find a better deal at a local market, you surely have to do extra work but it might be worth saving money on same food items.
I would not suggest you go out and search for different stores during this pandemic time as all are suggested to stay at home, you can buy food items from any nearby stores, for now, in future when things get right you can do this.
After all, a healthy lifestyle matters only when you’re free from diseases.

Grow Your Own Food

If you can grow your food, that would cut almost half the cost you’re spending on buying food. It doesn’t require too much space to grow any plant you can use pot, things you have to look after are:

  • Check the climate condition and check which plant is most suited.
  • Try growing green veggies as they are one of the most healthy ingredients for your diet, you can use them as a salad dressing.
  • Identify the pH level of your soil to make sure if a plant can grow in it. The ideal pH level is between 5.5 and 7.0 for the growth of a healthy plant.
